Do you find it difficult to make cards for men? Do you find them boring because you are limited in your colour palet and the choice of stamps? This time, thankfully, I didn’t have that problem. A friend of ours birthsay was coming up and since he enjoys a good cup a Joe, it was easy to choose stamps and colours. There are so many different coffee and tea sets out at the moment that there was a flood of products to choose from. For me things only started to get difficult when it was time to turn it into and interesting card. I think I managed to give it a surprising twist.
On a piece of kraft paper by Craft Unlimited I stamped the coffee cup from the Fresh Brewed Blueprints stampset by Stampers Anonymous and Tim Holts, using Early Espresso ink by Stampin’ Up. I gave it some colour using my Distress Markers in the colours Picket Fence, Old Paper, Tea Dye, Pumice Stone, Faded Jeans, Shabby Shutters and Weathered wood. On another piece of kraft paper by Craft Unlimited I stamped the Triangle Turnabout stamp by Concord & 9th using my MISTI. To do this I used Stampin’ Up ink in Tip Top Taupe, Baked Brown Sugar and Soft Suede. I stamped the fourth impression with VersaMark in order to be able to sprinkle gold embossing powder by Raher over it and melt it with my heatttool. I used the third largest rectangle die from the CLNest XXL nr 36 set to cut the triangles paper to size and the sixth smallest to cut out the coffee cup. Because I needed some contrast between the layers, I cut a piece of paper with a woodgrain print with the sixth largest die from the CLNestXXL nr 36 dieset. The paper was from a 6×6 paperpad from Simple Stories Daily Grind collection. Because I still missed something, I decided to add a coffee filter as a layer. The ribbed edges gave it some more texture and interest. All of the layers are attached with ATG to the Made by ME kraft card base with the exception of the focal image. It really pops because it is attachted with foamtape. As a finishing touch, I glued some wood veneer stars from Xenos to the card using glossy accents.
And that’s how you get a fun, masculine birthday card with a touch of sparkle because of the golden triangles in the background. The addition of the coffe filter is unexpected but in this case, very appropriate and humorous. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever added to a card?
